So where do I begin…
One day, I woke up and read a message from a man who was coming home…
He was searching for a photographer to capture his welcome home ceremony
His wife and family would be waiting for him to return from a nine month deployment
Reading the first few lines of his email, I KNEW I wanted to do this for them, and I KNEW I wanted to give this to them as a gift
I breifly explained the ‘challenge’ I made for myself at the beginning of the year
Thirteen gifts of photography for the year 2013
He happily agreed and I was in contact with sweet Sharon
Never meeting these people or knowing who they were,
I met her May 18th 2013 at 1:50 am
and together..
we waited…
The anticipation was painful, but the excitement in that hangar was unexplainable…
I had never been to a Welcome Home Ceremony before and I will never forget this experience
So many children running around decorated in their Red White and Blue outfits, bows and ribbons on their shirts, puffy paint saying
‘Get out of my way, today Im getting my daddy back!’
It really was a very exciting and emotional first hour
As the plane arrived the excitement only grew
legs began to shake and fingers fiddled
as families waited for their soldiers to deplane
When they finally opened those hangar doors, the roar and squeals of everyone in the stands waiting for them was louder than any sports event I had ever been to!
Tears fell, make up was smudged and I had an awful time trying to stay focused!
Will was four feet infront of us..
directly…
I could hardly stand it!!
Once they released them Sharon ran to him like a woman on a mission
and all was right in their world once again
:)
I am so honored to have the privilege to be there to share this special moment with them and I could not be more thankful for his message coming in my inbox
This family was brought to me for a reason
and I am so so glad they were!
Thank you Thompson family!
